Sky Wings Airport Information

About the Red Deer Airport and Local Flying Area:

The Red Deer Regional Airport (see maps of our location) is a former Canadian Air Force pilot training base. The Military built the training airfield at this site because of the predominantly good flying weather and uncongested airspace. This amounts to more flying days than almost any other site in Canada.

The Red Deer Regional Airport has a Flight Service Station which is open 24 hours each day. It is also equipped with two runways and with an instrument approach for the main runway, runway 16-34, which is 5,528 feet in length.

Located almost equidistant from the International Airports at Edmonton and Calgary, Red Deer affords easy access for our students to these busy airport environments, while local flying area is ideal for basic flight training and for perfecting more advanced skills.

Mountain flying, as in "Rocky Mountain Flying", is available eighty miles to the west. The area nearer the airport includes rolling woodlands, cattle ranches and vast tracks of grain fields.
