Aviation Challenge Camp
Program for Kids - Aviation Challenge Camp

Aviation Challeng Camp is a joint project of Chinook's Edge Regional School Division
What is it about aviation or space or both that fascinates people?
Why do these areas have so much mystery associated with them? At Aviation Challenge Camp the mysteries are unravelled!
|
| At Sky Wings Aviation Academy, our motto is "The Sky is NOT the limit". To demonstrate this, we have expanded our programs to include aviation and aerospace enthusiasts who are not yet old enough to undertake formal flight training. |

Every summer, forty teenagers get an opportunity that Orville and Wilbur Wright could only have dreamed about. They'll learn about aviation and space flight from people with thousands of hours of experience in flight training and aerospace education. They'll even get a chance to fly a Cessna 152 or 172! |
| This unique summer camp, for students aged 13-17, was established to get teens interested in aviation and appreciate the importance of education in general. Students, who successfully complete the week-long camp, qualify for three credits (issued by Chinook Edge) towards a high school diploma. Plus, they get an opportunity to be at the controls of an airplane for up to five hours - time they can log toward a Private Pilot License. |
Other camp activities include flying a high-tech simulator, constructing and launching model rockets, serving as a crew member on a mock space shuttle mission. A tour is also planned to the Reynold's Alberta Aviation Museum.
Students attending the camp are required to pass written tests and keep a journal concerning their activities.
|
| With teens from all over Canada participating, Space Kamp is not only an opportunity to learn about aviation and aerospace technology, but a chance to develop socially with people from diverse geographic backgrounds.
Sky Wings offers three camp sessions during July and August of each year. Registration per session is limited to 10 students. Registration fees include meals and accomodation in Sky Wings' dormitories. Virtually all Sky Wings employees help out at the camp and a few additional people are hired each summer to help with chaperoning and the ground school.
